I was feeling down yesterday so I decided a little bikeride might be in order. I was thinking Dairy Queen could be a possibility. On the way I passed a little used and new bookstore I'd been meaning to check out. I figured now was as good a time as any. I locked my bike and wandered up the stairs.
There were books everywhere. On shelves, on top of shelves, on the floor, piled higgledy piggledy with a imperceptible nod towards organization. There were sections and the books were sort of organized by last name. I was captured by the sci-fi/fantasy section. Of course.
Wandering through those shelves reminded me of my family's library, it was just much bigger and filled three or four rooms. I kept finding books that I'd read and books that I hadn't read but had seen at home. I stumbled upon Mercedes Lackey, that little shelf of books was terribly disorganized. I simply had to at LEAST put like books and series together. I found Exile's Valor whilst organizing. It went right into my very effective carryall, my helmet. Exile's Valor is the sequel to Exile's Honor, which I got for Christmas. It was four dollars. Totally owned!!! Around midnight I cracked it open and read until three. I've decided that I will do work for my business class and Judaic studies class before I pick it up again.
Then I found Howl's Moving Castle. I had no idea that there was even a book that went with the movie. I love that movie so I had to get the book. The back cover told a story that was very very similar to the movie plot. I can't wait to find out how the movie diverged from the book. Very excited indeed!
Whilst pondering my finds I had a thought, maybe this most wonderful of bookstores had Sharon Lee and Steve Miller somewhere on the shelves. I searched those disorganized, though, they were becoming less so as I searched, shelves for close to 15 minutes. It didn't help that I couldn't remember the full names of the authors. Once I had rediscovered that important bit of information I was off once more. Then I spotted them, way up on the top shelve above the F section. I Dare and Plan B (not to mean contraceptives) were right there. I was thrilled, out of the entire series those are two of my favorites out of the rest. I'm afraid I squealed and started muttering to myself while I was getting them. I think I startled the salesman shelving books behind me. :P These books are hard to find, I really hadn't expected to find them. They are also normally pretty pricey and these books looked almost brand new! That prompted me to look at the prices of all my books. These two were originally $16 each but they were now selling for $8!!!! Whoa now! Basically, I didn't care if I had to eat peanut butter the rest of the week, which I don't, I was going to buy these books. I got all four books for less that $30. I don't know if you are capable of imagining my excitement.
After all that I decided this day was too good for DQ so I went to the 7-11 and got Haagen-Daaz Strawberry icecream.
And it was good.
